Golden WAX waxes are made from 100% soybean oil and produced in Sweden by AAK.
These waxes are specially designed for containers and can be used without additives to make scented glass candles.

The "S41" is the European version, while in the US it is marketed under the name "464." This soy wax offers high fragrance retention, is extremely stable, and burns perfectly without emitting smoke.

This wax is optimized for all our fragrances

Characteristics

Type: Hydrogenated Soybean Wax Use: Container (jar/glass) Appearance: Ivory/cream, smooth finish Format: Flakes/sheets
Parameter Value / Indication
Melting point (dropping point) 41–47 °C
Recommended fragrance percentage 8–10% (some suppliers indicate up to 15% with compatible fragrances)
Color compatibility Liquid or flake soy food coloring; mix thoroughly to avoid streaking
Behavior Good adhesion to glass;
Storage Cool, dry, and free from odors; unopened. Typical shelf life ≥ 12 months.

Rules of Use

  1. Melting: Melt slowly (water bath or melter). Avoid prolonged overheating (>85–90°C).
  2. Adding fragrance: When wax is around ~60°C ; stir 1–2 minutes, slow and steady until smooth.
  3. Fragrance percentage: Start at 8–10% . Go up to 12–15% only if fragrance allows and burn tests are positive.
  4. Pouring temperature: Pour at ~31°C (when the mix begins to “cloud”); helps reduce shrinkage and uneven surfaces.
  5. Container: Preheat the glass slightly (about 35–50°C ) to improve adhesion and reduce thermal shock.
  6. Curing: wait ≥ 48 hours before first tests; 7–14 days for full aroma development.
  7. Wick test: mandatory for every wax/fragrance/diameter combination. Evaluates flame, consumption, walls, soot, and hot throw.

Technical note: Soybeans may exhibit surface frosting /crystallization. Temperature control (melting/pouring/cooling) and stable environments help limit this.

Best practices emerging from forums & communities

  • Do not overheat the wax: too high temperatures degrade the aromas and accentuate surface defects.
  • Thorough mixing : Slow, steady stirring improves fragrance dispersion and burn consistency.
  • Environment : Avoid drafts and sharp temperature changes during cooling to reduce cracking and staining.
  • “Difficult” fragrances : some heavy fragrances may require lower % or gradual testing (8 → 9 → 10%).
  • Document your tests : note wax batch, fragrance %, melt/pour temp, jar diameter, wick type, curing times.

Community recommendations are empirical: always verify with combustion tests under controlled conditions.

FAQ — S41 in brief

How much fragrance? 8–10% is the most stable range; consider up to 12–15% only with compatible essences and OK tests.

When to add the fragrance? Around 60°C, then stir well.

At what temperature should you pour? ~31°C, when the mixture begins to cloud.

Is it necessary to preheat the glass? Yes, 35–50°C helps with adhesion and surfaces.

How long does it take to cure? At least 48 hours; ideally, 7–14 days for maximum hot throw.

Performance & Usage

Suitable for making:

  • scented container candles
  • decorative candles in glass or ceramic
  • artisanal and semi-professional productions

Contributes to:

  • uniform surface and smooth finish
  • good adhesion to container walls
  • clean and even burn

Not suitable for:

  • pillar or molded candles
  • use as a structural additive
  • environments with uncontrolled significant temperature fluctuations

Usage Rules

1) Melting:

Melt slowly in a double boiler or dedicated melter.
Avoid prolonged overheating above 85–90 °C.

2) Fragrance Addition:

Add fragrance at approximately 60 °C, stirring slowly for 1–2 minutes.

Fragrance percentage: Start at 8–10 %.
Increase up to 12–15 % only with compatible essences and positive burn tests.

3) Container Heating:

Preheat the glass slightly (35–50 °C) to improve adhesion and reduce thermal shock.

4) Pouring:

Pour at approximately 31 °C, when the wax begins to cloud.
Reduces shrinkage and surface irregularities.

5/6) Curing:

Allow to cure for a minimum of 48 hours before initial testing.

Ideal 7–14 days for full aroma development.

7) Wick Testing:

Always mandatory for every combination:
wax / fragrance / diameter / container.

8) Finish:

Enjoy your finished candle!

Technical Note

Soy wax may exhibit frosting or surface crystallization, a natural phenomenon of vegetable waxes.

Careful control of:

  • temperatures
  • cooling
  • stable environment, helps limit its appearance.

Best Practice (community & laboratory)

  • Avoid excessive temperatures: they degrade aromas
  • Stir slowly for better fragrance dispersion
  • Cool in a stable environment, without drafts
  • Some “difficult” fragrances require lower percentages
  • Always document burn tests (batch, % FO, wick)
